Silicone Paint (D-3430 SP)

Attention, open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

D-3430 SP Silicone dispersion is a one-part liquid that cures to a tough, rubbery solid when exposed to atmospheric moisture. Adheres to many surfaces and provides excellent chemical, high temperature and weathering resistance that may cause other rubbers to degrade more quickly. This protective membrane is used to decorate and protect rubber products. These physical qualities make this an ideal coating (paint) for animatronic silicone puppet skins and rubber parts made of Latex, Urethane and Silicone RTV. Its transparency also allows for easy pigmentation with Silicone Pigments--Available in Red, Blue, Yellow, White, Black and Fleshtone.

Features:
*One Component Product – No mixing or catalyzing necessary
*Self-Leveling – Will form a smooth surface and flow into hard to reach areas
*Ease of Use – Can be Sprayed or Brushed-on
*Adhesion Properties - Will bond to many surfaces, use primer for best bond strength.
*Weather and Ozone Resistance – Excellent resistance to weathering, vibration, moisture, and ozone
*Resistance to High Temperatures – Will retain electrical and physical properties for extended periods of time at temperatures 400F (204C)
*Low Temperature Flexibility- Properties retained at temperatures as low as -50F

Instructions:
D-3430 SP Silicone dispersion adheres to many clean surfaces, primer required for best bond strength. But in cases of poor bonding, use P-1408 Surface Primer specifically formulated for improving silicone adhesion. This diluted solution of reactive silicone resin in methanol and ethanol alcohol is available in Clear Color-- Coverage: 40sq ft/Gallon.

Applying System:
1)  Clean surface to be coated, and then dry it completely. (Use isopropyl alcohol to degrease and clean surface)
*For ultimate adhesion, apply P-1408 Primer & let dry for one hour. (P-1408 maybe applied by brushing or spraying, and is cured by air-drying for one hour at a minimum of 25% humidity)

2)  Apply D-3430 SP to surface by spraying or brushing.
*May be thinned with Naphtha VMP for airbrushing
*Pre color by adding Silicone Pigment

3)  Allow 24 hours for complete cure and 72 hours before any mechanical stress
*Silicone is a dust magnet. Process material in a clean area free of dust & heavy traffic.

Storage:
D-3430 SP will air-dry so keep container tightly sealed between applications. A thin layer off Naphtha or Nitrogen gas can aid against any premature air-drying.
